AMHERST, N.Y. — Police say a 90-year-old New York man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 89-year-old wife at a retirement community.
Amherst Police Assistant Chief Tim Green says Virginia Bunz was found dead Sunday morning at the Amberleigh Retirement Community. Her husband John was taken from the apartment for treatment of self-inflicted wounds and was later charged at a local hospital.
Green says the couple appears to have had a domestic dispute.
John Bunz is now being held at a Buffalo jail. Police won’t discuss the nature of his injuries, or say how Virginia Bunz died. He’s due in Amherst Town Court for a felony hearing Thursday afternoon. A court official says Tuesday there’s no lawyer listed yet for Bunz.
