NHL: Ovechkin: I’m sorry for ‘little push’

Capitals star Alex Ovechkin said he was “disappointed” by the NHL’s decision to suspend him for two games for his hit on Blackhawks defenseman Brian Campbell and was sorry for the injury that came on what he thought was “just a little push.” Campbell will miss seven to eight weeks with a broken collar bone and a fractured rib.

* The puck that Canada’s Sidney Crosby used to score the game-winner in the 3-2 overtime thriller against the U.S. in the Olympic final on Feb. 28 is going to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

* In Atlanta, U.S. Olympic hero Ryan Miller was pulled after giving up three goals in the first six minutes and the Sabres went on to lose to the Thrashers 4-3.

HOOPS: LeBron triple-double lifts Cavs

In Auburn Hills, LeBron James had his fourth triple-double of the season (29 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists), lifting the Cavs to their fourth straight win, 113-101 over Detroit.

* Jason Richardson scored 27 points as the Suns blasted the Timberwolves, 152-114, last night in the highest-scoring game by an NBA team this season.

* In Miami, Manu Ginobili scored 22 points, George Hill had 16 and the surging Spurs wasted most of a 25-point, third-quarter lead before beating the Heat 88-76. Dwyane Wade scored 28 points for Miami.

* Oregon let go of Ernie Kent after 13 years as men’s basketball coach at his alma mater. Oregon went 16-16 overall and 7-11 in the Pac-10 this past season.

ETC.: Red Sox prospect has brain surgery

Highly regarded Red Sox outfield prospect Ryan Westmoreland, 19, had successful surgery in Arizona to remove a cavernous malformation in his brain.

* Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton‘s left hand is OK after being hit by a pitch Monday, but he had to go to the dentist for what is believed to be an infected tooth.

* The Eagles signed free agent running back Mike Bell of the Saints to an offer sheet.

* In London, Samuel Eto scored in the 78th minute, leading Inter Milan and coach Jose Mourinho over Chelsea 1-0 and into the Champions League quarterfinals on 3-1 aggregate.

* In Nome, Alaska, Lance Mackey won the 1,100-mile Iditarod to become the only musher to win four consecutive races.
