Martha goes cable

‘T
he Martha Stewart Show” is getting wired for cable.

The syndicated daytime series will move to Hallmark Channel in September as part of a new deal. Stewart’s company, MSLO, will also create daytime and prime-time programming for the cable network.

“Martha,” currently distributed by NBC Universal Domestic TV, has been struggling to find viewers the past few years.

“It’s so important for us to be available on TV when our viewers can watch us, and this enables ‘The Martha Stewart Show’ to be on at 10 a.m., nationwide, every single day,” Stewart said on a conference call.

The show will also repeat every weekday at 4 and 5 p.m., she said.

“It will appeal greatly to the working woman who loves our material and is often at work when the show now airs in syndication,” Stewart said, “and [to] the stay-at-home mom who’ll have a specific time and place to see the show.”

“Martha,” now in its fifth season, also airs on Fine Living Network, which is being rebranded as The Cooking Channel next fall. “Martha” will air on Fine Living until June.

The Hallmark Channel deal will not affect other MSLO programming like Stewart’s “Everyday Food” series, which will continue airing on PBS, and “The Emeril Lagasse Show,” which premieres March 28 on ION.
