Tennessee rolls past Alabama

Wayne Chism scored all 11 of his points over the final seven minutes and No. 8 Tennessee held off Alabama 63-56 last night in Tuscaloosa.

Scotty Hopson scored 17 points and the short-handed Volunteers (15-2, 3-0 SEC) remained in survival mode, overcoming cold shooting by making it an even tougher night for the Crimson Tide shooters.

Tennessee held Alabama (11-7, 1-3) to only one basket in the final 3:30 and made five of six free throws down the stretch.

Ga. Tech 66, Clemson 64

In Atlanta, Zachery Peacock made two free throws with 3.2 seconds remaining and No. 19 Georgia Tech knocked off another ranked team, beating No. 17 Clemson.

Georgia Tech (14-4, 3-2 ACC) has beaten three Top 25 teams over an 11-day span, also knocking off Duke and North Carolina before edging the Tigers (15-4, 3-2).

Ohio St. 76, N’western 56

In Columbus, Evan Turner keyed a fast start with five of his 20 points and No. 21 Ohio State (14-5, 4-3 Big Ten) never trailed. The Wildcats fell to 13-5, 2-4.

Purdue 84, Illinois 78

JaJuan Johnson scored 24 points to lead No. 13 Purdue (15-3, 3-3). Demetri McCamey had 28 points for the Illini (12-7, 4-2).

JT Durley had 19 points as host Wichita State (17-3, 6-2 MVC) knocked off No. 20 Northern Iowa (16-2, 7-1) to end the nation’s second-longest winning streak at 15 games.

BC 79, Miami 75

Reggie Jackson scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half for Boston College (11-8, 2-3 ACC).
