Newly minted “World News” anchor Diane Sawyer is in Kabul, from whence she’ll report tonight and to morrow (6:30 p.m./Ch. 7) on “Afghani stan: Where Things Stand.” Sawyer is scheduled to inter view Gen. Stanley McChrystal; “GMA” week end anchor Bill Weir, who’s embedded with US forces, will also report.

John Leguizamo, LL Cool J (“NCIS: LA”), Sherri Shep herd and Monique Coleman (“High School Musical”) are among the A-listers who’ll appear on the upcoming (sec ond) season of “The Electric Company,” which premieres Jan. 25 on PBS.

More: Veteran meteorolo gist Stephanie Abrams (“Wake Up with Al”) and Newton Wimer host “Weather Proof,” premiering Jan. 24 (9 p.m.) on The Weather Channel. The series re-creates “intense weather conditions” in an effort to ed ucate viewers on handling these situations.

Reality: Last Thursday’s “Jer sey Shore” snared a series record 3.2 million viewers on MTV and a record 3.2 (per sons 12-34), finishing second in that demo (cable and broadcast) behind ABC’s cov erage of the BCS national championship game.

And “Real Houswives of New York” castmate Count ess LuAnn de Lesseps signs (paperback) copies of her book, “Class with the Count ess,” Jan. 21 (Borders, Time Warner Center, 7 p.m.).

LuAnn’s Bravo stablemate, Sheree Whitfield (“Real Housewives of Atlanta”), makes her acting debut (what, they don’t act on the show?) on the stage in “Heaven I Need a Hug,” Jan. 19-24 in Garland, Texas (Granville Arts Center).
