A court hearing scheduled for Monday in which prosecutors were seeking to obtain permission to get DNA samples from Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the 23-year-old Nigerian man charged with attempting to blow up a Detroit-bound passenger jet, has been canceled.
Abdulmutallab is next scheduled to appear in the U.S. District Court in Detroit for a detention hearing on Jan. 8.
A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s office gave no specific reason for the cancellation and would not say if a DNA request would be made at the detention hearing.
Abdulmutallab was charged Saturday while still in a Michigan hospital recovering from third-degree burns sustained during the terror attempt with attempting to destroy an aircraft and with placing a destructive device on an aircraft.
