Giant disappointment

* Dear Giants: You have a diehard fan base that puts off other commitments to watch you play. We don’t make millions like you do. We work very hard for our money and work with more heart than you have. You owe us. Your disgraceful display of a season is over in November.

* I have never seen a Giants defense look more unprepared or confused. The blame has to be put squarely on the shoulders of defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan. The safeties are always out of position, the checks are often sent in late, and defensive ends are frequently dropped off into pass coverage, something that doesn’t even work in Pop Warner football. Sheridan is clueless and needs to watch the rest of the season from his couch at home.

* Look, it’s getting close to Christmas and I would hate to see anyone lose his job, but I gotta tell ya, the Giants defense didn’t look like they wanted to get their uniforms dirty against the Broncos. If it was a one-game thing, I’d say forget it, but they are at the bottom of the league in red zone defense and falling fast. If they want to start winning some football games, I’m afraid they are going to have to start holding some people accountable. There are no comfort zones in the NFL.

* The Gi-Aints’ pathetic performance against the Broncos reveals two things: First, they are not in a slump, they are just a bad team; second, it’s up to the players to get it right. The talent is there, but they seem all too quick to pull out the injury card or something like that. It’s the players, not the coaching. It is difficult to be a Giants fan in Texas, and their play makes me wonder why I am one. The Giants have gone from mighty to mediocre to miserable.

Tiger’s Swede surprise

* So, it turns out Tiger Woods’ most formidable opponent is not other golfers, but his wife, Elin Nordegren. Shanking a ball on the fairway or missing a close putt is inconsequential compared to what she dished out. Just call her “The Swedish Swinger.”

Garden of quicksand

* Can people be honest? The Knicks are still being dismantled during this lost season, and telling fans to wait until 2010 is just selling them false hope. Even if the Knicks sign two stars, they have no foundation. If the league wanted to help the Knicks, they’d lose the cap. Money is the Knicks’ advantage. If they can not use it, they are not going anywhere.

Sold on Shelley

* While the Mets ponder what do to about their pitching and left field, there might be a low cost solution to put in the outfield: Shelley Duncan. If the Mets want to invest big dollars in John Lackey or get involved with the Roy Halladay talks, Duncan, looking for a new start after being dropped by the Yankees, can provide offense without costing big bucks, like Matt Holliday or Jason Bay. If the Mets sign Duncan, get Lackey or Halladay and add a Joel Piniero or Jason Marquis to the rotation, I think we can make a run in 2010.
