Afternoon horror: Canarsie teen attacked, nearly raped

A 14-year-old girl was grabbed and nearly raped during a confrontation with a knife-wielding lunatic Tuesday, police said.

Now armed with a sketch of the suspect, investigators are scouring the streets for information about the portly perpetrator before he strikes again.

The terrified teen told police she was nearing the corner of Avenue N and East 108th Street at 4:40 p.m. when the stranger grabbed her.

The fiend pulled a knife and claimed to have a gun as he began to sexually assault the young woman, but suddenly got cold feet and ran off when she began screaming for help.

Cops described the suspect as a 5’8” dark-skinned male between 220 and 250 pounds with a large build.

This is the second sex assault to take place in the borough in recent days.

On the morning before the Canarsie attack a 25-year-old woman was assaulted near Diamond Street in Greenpoint, said officials, although the two incidents do not appear to be related.

Cops are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward.

Calls can be made to the NYPD CrimeStoppers hotline at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
