Tommy Hilfiger

Tommy Hilfiger is the American Boy Estelle was singing about. And for Spring 2010, he’ll take her to New York and to see L.A., just like she asked.

Inspired by SoCal — and not in that flashy, casual, $200 sweatpants way — Hilfiger’s show notes cited the relaxed glamour of a southern California boardwalk as inspiration. Maybe that’s what all the rose colored silk was about. From swing coats, blouses to jodphurs and even a strapless corset dress with a drapey black back, there was a lot of soft pink.

Thankfully the collection quickly slipped in to familiar territory. The kind of blue and white stripes, red gown and tan suede fitted flight jackets that Hilfiger does so well. Highlights included a navy and white zigzag wool strapless mini dress, a navy and white striped maillot under a white wool blazer and a hot men’s style white wool double breasted suit over a silk jersey tank with metallic trim.

Pre-show bold facers like Naomi Campbell, January Jones, Penn Badgley, Anna Wintour and Carine Roitfeld stopped by the brand’s 5th Ave. Global Flagship that opened this week.
