LI KIDS SLAM LIBRARY LOUTS

Outraged Long Island kids slammed a plan by stuffy East Hampton bureaucrats to kill a library expansion because of fears it will attract poor people from surrounding communities.

“It’s just not fair they don’t want us here,” said José Morales, 7, of Springs, a less affluent hamlet within the town of East Hampton.

Execs from the library in posh East Hampton Village hope to build a 3,500-square-foot reading room that would contain 10,000 new volumes for children.

The zoning board has held up the plan for six years purportedly over environmental concerns, but library director Dennis Fabiszak said the panel is fearful it will attract a less affluent clientele.

“In our country we promote reading. This is almost like denying it,” said D’Ashley Wilson, 16, also of Springs, who described her town’s library as “crummy.”

“Everybody needs to pick up a good book and learn something.”
