COLLEGE: Aikman enshrined

In South Bend, Ind., former Cowboys star and UCLA quarterback Troy Aikman and 20 other former players and coaches were enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Others enshrined included former Ohio State coach John Cooper, former Oklahoma State tailback Thurman Thomas, former Florida linebacker Wilber Marshall and Lou Holtz, who coached at Notre Dame, South Carolina, Minnesota, Arkansas, North Carolina State and William & Mary.

NBA: Daniels to play for Celtics

Former Pacers guard Marquis Daniels will play for the Celtics next season.

Agent Glenn Schwartzman said that his client has committed to go to Boston as a free agent or as part of a sign-and-trade deal with Indiana. Schwartzman said both teams would prefer that the sign-and-trade works out, but the Celtics will use the biannual exception to sign Daniels if trade talks fizzle.

TENNIS: Soderling reaches final

In Bastad, Sweden, second-seeded Robin Soderling beat fellow Swede Andreas Vinciguerra 6-1, 7-6 (6) to set up a meeting with Juan Monaco in the Swedish Open final.

Monaco, an unseeded Argentine, routed two-time defending champion Tommy Robredo 6-0, 6-2 in the other semifinal on the slow clay.

BOXING: Khan wins Jr. welter title

In Manchester, England, highly touted Amir Khan finally lived up to lofty expectations, earning a unanimous decision over Andreas Kotelnik to capture the WBA junior welterweight title.

The 22-year-old Khan’s blistering victory came five years after a career-launching Olympic silver medal, and 10 months after he was knocked out by Breidis Prescott in 54 seconds. Two judges scored the fight 118-111, while the third had it 120-108.

SOFTBALL: U.S. tops Japan

In Oklahoma City, Alissa Haber and Andrea Duran homered as the U.S. exacted a measure of revenge for its loss in the Olympic gold medal game, defeating Japan 6-1 at the World Cup of Softball.

Earlier in the day, Natasha Watley hit a grand slam, and Duran and Leles also homered as the U.S. piled up its most lopsided win, beating Canada 15-0 in four innings.

AUTO: Kyle Busch wins again

In Madison, Ill., Kyle Busch continued his domination of the NASCAR Nationwide Series by sailing to victory in the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250.

Busch, who leads the point standings, won for the sixth time in 19 races this season. Reed Sorenson finished second and Carl Edwards was third. Mike Bliss and Brad Coleman rounded out the top five.
