An airplane headed to West Palm Beach from Long Island was forced to turn around yesterday after a passenger threatened another claiming to have a gun, authorities said.
Southwest Airlines Flight 1552 took off from MacArthur Airport in Islip just after 9 a.m., and within a few minutes an argument broke out on board.
“A passenger was very disruptive,” said Transportation Security Administration spokesperson Ann Davis. “He verbally threatened another passenger with the use of a gun.”
But when the plane returned, police discovered there was no gun.
The suspect was placed in handcuffs, but it wasn’t immediately clear if he was charged.
