Hordes of angry straphangers yesterday heeded Mayor Bloomberg’s call to flood state lawmakers’ phone lines and get “mad as hell” at Albany’s inaction on staggering fare hikes.

There was a “surge” of calls to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s office, spokesman Dan Weiller said.

The bells were also ringing at the offices of State Sen. Joseph Addabbo, who reported “a number” of phone calls from incensed riders.

“I’ve spoken to a handful of constituents today,” Addabbo (D-Queens) said. “Frustration. It’s frustration equal to mine.”

He said he “didn’t think it was fair” that MTA officials didn’t wait longer to vote on their “doomsday” plan.

Silver’s spokesman claimed that most of the calls to his Democratic boss have been “supportive” of the speaker’s plan to implement $2 tolls on now-free East River and Harlem River bridges to fund the deficit-plagued MTA.

State politicians have a chance to avert the disaster if they approve a financial-rescue plan, but some lawmakers won’t agree to bridge tolls.
