STARR REPORT

‘K&K’ not OK

NBC ordered a full season of “Kath & Kim” early on last fall, but to what end? The Molly ShannonSelma Blair sitcom, which never really got off the ground, fell to 3.4 million viewers last Thursday night – terrific numbers if you’re on The CW. “K&K,” in fact, was saved from the igno nimity of a last-place timeslot finish, across-the-board, by a repeat of The CW’s “Small ville. In its defense, “K&K” was up against “American Idol.” Still . . .

The news is only slightly better for “ER,” which aver aged 8.7 million viewers from 10-11 p.m. and lost handily in viewers to “Eleventh Hour” on CBS (although it did win adults 18-49). While “ER” had its best viewership since De cember, you’d think a show which, once-upon-a-time, av eraged 30 million viewers, would generate more interest now that it’s winding down after a 15-year run.

Mark Burnett in the April issue of Best Life magazine, out March 10: “Only an idiot sells the same product the same way to every person. The first mission in com merce is to analyze the per son opposite you, get to know him a bit, and then adjust your sales pitch to match the person. That’s the same strat egy I used when it came time to sell ‘Survivor’ and every other television show since.”
