REEL GOOD

WAITING TO EXHALE (1995), Monday, 10 p.m., Bravo

Forest Whitaker takes the reigns as director here showing a pretty good understanding of women and their love/hate relationship with the men they love-and sometimes hate. From Terry McMillan’s novel, this is like a modern take on “The Women,” in which four terrifically talented actresses (Whitney Houston, Angela Bassett, Lela Rochon, and Loretta Devine) are friends working through life with one another’s help.

WITNESS (1985), Thursday, 1:30 a.m., AMC

Harrison Ford has never been sexier than in this Peter Weir film. As a Philly cop who investigates a murder witnessed by the son of an Amish widow (Kelly McGillis), he gives quite a restrained performance. Ford ends up going underground among the Amish, and the unconsummated heat between Harrison and the widow lady is enough to set your flat screen ablaze.

POLTERGEIST (1982), Thursday, 8 p.m., AMC

Although the plot sounds ridiculous, this very 1980’s ghost story turns pretty darned scary fast, as a happy suburban couple (played by Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams) has their life upended when daughter, Carol Anne (Heather O’Rourke), becomes possessed by late-night television – and I’m not talking the “Tonight Show.” Tapping into every kid’s worst fear, Carol Anne gets kidnapped through her closet!

FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL (2008), Saturday, 10 p.m., Cinemax

Movie music composer Peter (Jason Segal) is destroyed when his TV star girlfriend (Kristen Bell) breaks up with him. Wanting to escape from it all, the couch potato ex books himself into a tropical resort only to discover that Sarah has checked in with her new rocker boyfriend, played hilariously well by Russell Brand. In fact, everyone’s funny, but Bell and Brand steal the show.
