TEDDY COY ON CAROLINE MESS

WASHINGTON – In his first public comments on his niece Caroline Kennedy not landing a US Senate seat, Sen. Edward Kennedy said, “That’s yesterday – that’s yesterday’s news.”

Kennedy spoke to The Post as he hurried into the Capitol building yesterday for a vote on the Senate version of the economic-stimulus bill.

He said he had not spoken to Gov. Paterson since his controversial choice of Kirsten Gillibrand for the job after Caroline, the reputed frontrunner, withdrew.

An aide to Sen. Kennedy said the Massachusetts Democrat has yet to meet Gillibrand.
