THE PREZ & EXEC PAY: HE NEEDS A THINKING CAP

THE ISSUE: President Obama’s pay cap for executives at bailed-out firms.

President Obama is quick to boldly tell the American public how greedy and evil our corporate CEOs are, even though their companies pay 35 percent of their billions in profit to our government. He will not use the words “Islamic terrorism” because he is afraid of offending Islamic terrorists (“Salary Cap,” Editorial, Feb. 5).

Come back, President Bush!

Congress is also on the government dole; salaries, benefits, staff time, office expenses, travel expenses and cars are paid for by the taxpayers.

However, this springboard for the private-sector gravy train puts them on the same playing field with corporate executives whose salaries the executive order caps.

Shouldn’t all government officials upon leaving office face the same restrictions? But for the taxpayer, they’d be in no position to garner millions in speaker fees, consultant contracts and book deals.

To whom are members of Congress accountable? I thought that the corporate executives were accountable to stockholders and members of Congress to taxpayers.

As the so-called stimulus package packs more spending in on my dime, I see no accountability.

As an encore, Obama should put a cap on organized sports players’ salaries.

There should be no more megamillion-dollar contracts for steroid-enhanced losers who couldn’t hold a real job outside the sports world.
