FASHION WEEK IS MOVING

The runways are cleared for takeoff.

New York Fashion Week will ditch its digs at Bryant Park in favor of Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center beginning in September 2010, a source told The Post.

Mayor Bloomberg today is expected to announce the change, more than two years after the Council of Fashion Designers of American and IMG Fashion, which runs the shows, asked for more space for the twice-a-year event, the source said.

The mayor and the two organizations worked together to find a new location after many complaints that the shows – which require days of preparation and cleanup – were becoming too big for Bryant Park.

There’s more room for Fashion Week to spread out in Damrosch Park, which attracts fewer people than the more centrally located Bryant Park.

“Bryant Park has so many demands on it and the Fashion Week is a great draw, but it also becomes not a public use for a few days out of the year,” the source said.
