ED FOUNTAINE’S STAKES SPOT PLAYS

PAUMONOK HANDICAP

Aqueduct, 8th race. Purse: $65,000. 6 furlongs, 3-year-olds and up. Post: 3:49 p.m.

LOWDOWN: Accredit was an easy winner of his last three starts run in the mud and slop, but he doesn’t need an off-track to run well, having finished a close second last winter in back-to-back sprint stakes over Aqueduct’s fast inner dirt. Kiaran McLaughlin’s 4-year-old is in peak form and should get a garden trip stalking a pace duel from his outside post.

SUNSHINE MILLIONS FILLY & MARE SPRINT

Gulfstream Park, 9th race. Purse: $300,000. 6 furlongs, fillies and mares. Post: 5:05 p.m.

LOWDOWN: High Resolve is 6-for-9 and has never been out of the money for trainer Greg Gilchrist, who has success invading Florida from his northern California base. In fact, when High Resolve was a 2-year-old, she shipped from Bay Meadows to win a stakes at Calder. The 4-year-old filly has high early speed and cuts back in distance after finishing second her last two starts.

SUNSHINE MILLIONS TURF

Santa Anita, 6th race. Purse: $500,000. Mile-and-an-eighth, turf, 3-year-olds and up. Post: 5:15 p.m.

LOWDOWN: Soldier’s Dancer rallied to miss by a nose in the Grade 3 Tropical Turf Handicap at Calder and his late-running style fits a race packed with early speed. The 5-year-old gelding finished full of run to be second in this race last year when it was run at Gulfstream.

LAST WEEK: Barrier Reef won the Evening Attire at Aqueduct paying $5. Evita Argentina (2-1) ran second in the Santa Ynez at Santa Anita. Square Eddie ran second in the San Rafael as the 3-5 favorite.
