Jets confirm Ryan hiring

The Jets officially announced the hiring of Rex Ryan moments ago. The team did not disclose the terms of the deal, but it is four years and between $11-12 million, according to league sources.

The Jets interviewed eight candidates before picking Ryan. He has been the leading candidate for the last week. The team offered him the job late Sunday night after the Ravens lost to Pittsburgh in the AFC title game.

Jets owner Woody Johnson and GM Mike Tannenbaum flew to Baltimore this morning to finalize the deal.

Ryan, 46, has been a Ravens assistant for the past 10 years, the last four as defensive coordinator. He is the son of Buddy Ryan, the architect of the 46 defense and an assistant on the Super Bowl-winning 1968 Jets.
