Jacobs no, Ross yes

BY PAUL SCHWARTZ

It was a good news/bad news deal when Tom Coughlin announced who was in and who was out for today’s practice.

It came as no surprise that RB Brandon Jacobs, who is nursing an injured left knee, did not participate. Jacobs was forced out of last week’s 20-14 loss to the Eagles. This has been an ongoing problem. Although Coughlin said Jacobs “Is a little bit better” at this point it appears unlikely that he will play Sunday against the Cowboys at Texas Stadium.

“We’ll do the smart thing,” Coughlin said.

Jacobs initially hurt his knee Oct. 5 against the Seahawks, played through the problem but made the situation worst in the Nov. 16 game against the Ravens. Jacobs sat out the following week in Arizona and has not looked like himself the past two games.

CB Aaron Ross also left the game against the Eagles, exiting early with a sprained ankle. Ross, though, was good to go for practice. That’s a good sign for the Giants, who almost always hold players out of Wednesday’s practice if there is anything remotely wrong with them.

A new injury to arise is a potentially troublesome one. WR Domenik Hixon came out of the Eagles game with injuries to his ankle and good and he was held out of practice. “He’s sore but he’s getting better,” Coughlin said. “There is some swelling, but not as much.” Hixon is now the full-time starter in place of suspended Plaxico Burress.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw (neck) was able to practice. LB Jonathan Goff (hamstring) was held out.
