NASCAR: Biffle wins again

Greg Biffle made it 2-for-2 in the Chase for the championship, holding off Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards yesterday at Dover (Del.) International Speedway. Biffle, the winner last week at New Hampshire after passing Jimmie Johnson with 12 laps left, is third in the Chase points standings. Biffle and Johnson are 10 points behind Edwards for the lead, but Johnson holds the tiebreaker.

* NASCAR last week fired two officials who had been suspended during an internal investigation into claims made in a $225 million racial discrimination and sexual harassment lawsuit. Tim Knox and Bud Moore were accused in Mauricia Grant‘s lawsuit of exposing themselves to her, and making graphic and lewd jokes. Grant, who is African-American, worked as a technical inspector for NASCAR’s second-tier Nationwide Series from January 2005 through her October 2007 firing.

TENNIS: Spain KOs U.S.

Rafael Nadal defeated Andy Roddick, 6-4, 6-0, 6-4 on clay as Spain yesterday defeated the U.S. in the Davis Cup semifinal in Madrid. In the finale, Feliciano Lopez defeated Sam Querrey 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4) in a meaningless match to complete a 4-1 victory. In November’s final, Spain will face Argentina, which completed a 3-2 victory over Russia yesterday in Buenos Aires.

* Dinara Safina defeated Russian compatriot Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-1, 6-3 to win the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

FOOTBALL: Teel not suspended

Rutgers QB Mike Teel will not be punished for throwing a punch at teammate Glen Lee in the waning seconds of Rutgers’ 23-21 loss to Navy on Saturday.

GOLF: Mackenizie wins playoff

Will MacKenzie beat Marc Turnesa on the second playoff hole after Brian Gay dropped out on the first extra hole at the PGA Tour’s Viking Classic in Madison, Miss.
