A 5-year-old girl was killed yesterday when the red wagon she was riding in slid down a driveway and was struck by a car on a Long Island highway, cops said.
The girl’s father had left to get something from the family’s rented house in Amagansett just before 3 p.m. when the wagon started rolling down the steep slope abutting Montauk Highway.
A woman driving east desperately tried to avoid the child but smashed into the wagon before swerving into a guardrail. The woman suffered minor injuries .
A neighbor said the distraught dad ran to the scene and laid down next to his daughter, who later died at Southhampton Hospital.
“It’s sickening just thinking what happened to her,” the neighbor said.
