Another year, another grey/rainy pre-Memorial Day morning, another announcement from Dr. Stephen Leatherman, aka Dr. Beach, who has the 2008 list of top ten strands in these United States. Numero uno this year is Caladesi Island, a state park (pictured above) near St. Pete, Fla. Otherwise, there’s the usual mix: Hawaii (Hanalei), Cackalack (Hatteras) and The Hamptons (Coopers Beach, Main Beach).
As usual, we have to stand up and say that you can travel far and wide, but those LI beaches are pretty darn special. Just so the West Coast people don’t get cross, the good Dr. gave a nod to Coronado in San Diego. They can have that one.
“Caladesi is a well-kept secret,” says a wire release announcing the top 10. “Surrounded by the beauty of a lush state park, few people in Tampa seem to know its whereabouts.”
No people from Tampa? Sounds like a must-do.
