DAREDEVIL REWIRES

Thirty-four years after he walked a cable stretched high between the Twin Towers, high-wire artist Philippe Petit recreated the magic by walking a tightrope in Washington Square Park.

“I started doing magic by myself at 6 years old. I was on the street juggling by 15. I created a character that traveled about the word and I will never stop. It is who I am,” said Petit after his hourlong show.

Yesterday’s “high-wire” act – which was only about five feet off the ground, between a lamppost and a tree – was promotion for the documentary film “Man On Wire,” about his 1974 Twin Towers performance.

Petit was arrested and sent for psychiatric evaluation after his 1974 stunt.
