Champions League: Man U v. Barca, Leg 2

Paul Scholes feels the love with a hug from Mikael Silvestre and kudos from Edwin van der Sar for his goal in their win over Barcelona.

Manchester United got out to an early lead with a 14th minute goal from Paul Scholes. The diminutive midfielder’s strike put the Red Devils ahead for good as they held on 1- 0 to defeat Barcelona.

The fans at Old Trafford rained boos upon the visitors in the first half. The Spanish side put on a technical showcase, but pretty football is meaningless without results. Barcelona managed to muster some offense, though. They recorded 14 shots with three of them testing Edwin van der Sar.

It was a tight match but the yellow cards flowed freely. Five were awarded in the second half, with Barca getting three of the bookings. The Spanish side’s Yaya Toure was the latest booking, for a tackle on Park Ji-Sung. Toure would have missed the final had Barca made it, but now his whole side will join him in going home. United awaits the victor of Chelsea v. Liverpool, who have their second leg clash tomorrow at Stamford Bridge. Should the Blues triumph, the Champions League final will pit against each other the two sides vying for the Premiership title.
