A “thrilled” Alex Rodriguez rushed to a Miami hospital just in time for the birth of his second daughter.
The Yankee slugger and his wife, Cynthia, 34, welcomed the 7-pound, 2-ounce addition to the family Monday night. The couple did not announce a name.
The baby was due later this week but arrived early.
“We are thrilled with the birth of our second daughter and the blessing of having two beautiful, healthy daughters in our lives,” A-Rod said.
The couple’s first child, Natasha, is now three.
The three-time MVP left Sunday’s game due to a strained quadriceps and intended to fly to Miami to be with Cynthia for the birth – but no one knew when that would be.
Yankee manager Joe Girardi joked on Sunday that Cynthia Rodriguez was “waiting for her husband’s off day” to give birth. Yesterday he said A-Rod arrived “in the nick of time.”
When the couple disclosed Cynthia’s pregnancy last fall, she said, “We’re just real excited.”
“It’s almost more exciting” than their first child’s birth, she added, “because you can anticipate what you already know is so amazing.”
Rodriguez is expected to spend time with his family and rejoin the Yankees tomorrow.
