Will Everybody Love a Dramatic Raymond?

He may be responsible for the “ugly guy, pretty girl” set-up that’s pretty much ruined family driven sitcoms, but you gotta give it to Ray Romano, he delivered a hilarious half-hour of comedy weekly on Everybody Loves Raymondâ€but do you want to see him tackle a dramatic role?

It was announced today that Ray would be returning to television as the star of Men of a Certain Age, a one-hour TNT drama that will, according to the press release, “take a wry look at what it means to be a guy approaching mid-life while also exploring the unique bonds of male friendship.”

They probably went with that title because calling the show “Entourage minus the fame, plus twenty-years” wasn’t quite as catchy. Ray, who will be writing Men along with Mike Royce (his partner on Raymond), said, “Mike and I have always had success writing what we know. What we know now is that we’re middle aged, neurotic and fat.”

This statement hints that Men of a Certain Age will take on more of a darkly comic tone, which might make all the difference, because the idea of seeing Ray shatter his loveable image, a la David Duchovny on Californication, sounds like must-see TV to me.

Just please, no butt shots Ray!
