No further details are known at this point about “Gran Torino,” which may have already begun shooting, and it’s anybody’s guess whether it’s another Oscar contender — or a farce like Eastwood’s last movie with an automotive title, “Pink Cadillac” (unless it’s about Italian soccer). There’s another director with two possible Oscar contenders for 2008, Steven Soderbergh
with “Guerilla” and “The Argentine,” both starring Benicio del Toro as Fidel Castro’s bud Che Guevara. But neither one has official release dates, and it isn’t even clear whether they’re going out via Universal Pictures or its specialty arm, Focus Features.
