Alou, Vargas latest to go down

PORT ST. LUCIE -– The injuries just keep piling up for the Mets, who lost 41-year-old outfielder Moises Alou and pitcher Jason Vargas this afternoon.

Alou — who turns 42 in July — was sent back to New York today to have an MRI exam on his sore right groin. He suffered the injury during an at-bat Monday in Port St. Lucie against the Braves.

Vargas, meanwhile, has a injured left hip and is being sent Philadelphia to see a specialist. The left-hander has appeared in just one game this spring.

On the bright side, Carlos Delgado (hip impingement) was able to hit off a tee today.
