FILM BYTES

“I felt there were a lot more ‘Star Wars’ stories left to tell,” creator George Lucas says. And he wasn’t kidding.

Warner Bros. announced Wednesday that an all-new animated feature is coming to theaters Aug. 15. “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” follows in the mold of the 2003 series of TV shorts aired ahead of the release of “Episode III.” The feature film will also lead into an all-new animated TV series, airing on the Cartoon Network and TNT beginning in the fall.

* Literary adaptations seem to do the Cohen Brothers good. Following last year’s “No Country for Old Men” (which should win Best Picture), the writer-directors are set to adapt Michael Chabon’s “The Yiddish Policemen’s Union.”

* We’re not sure if this is good news, but Michael Bay says he’s taken it upon himself to write the sequel to “Transformers.” The publicity-loving director says he’s got a complete outline ready to hand over to writers.

* Spoiler alert: In the upcoming James Bond movie “Quantum of Solace,” the secret agent attempts to take down the crime syndicate he first encountered in “Casino Royale.” So who exactly is the boss of this family? According to Ain’t It Cool News, it’s the Godfather himself, Al Pacino, who makes a climactic cameo.

* The trailer for May 22’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” hit theaters and the Web Thursday, and reactions have been mixed. Some posters on Ain’t It Cool News have said it gave them “goosebumps,” while others were underwhelmed by the CG and jokey dialogue.
