‘HEP C’ DOC TREATED COPS

Twenty-three NYPD officers were treated by a Long Island physician under investigation for spreading hepatitis by dipping syringes more than once into medicine vials, officials say.

Dr. Harvey Finkelstein is accused of using needles multiple times on the same patients and of possibly contaminating vials of medications when the syringes were reinserted.

“While the risk of transmission of hepatitis and HIV from such exposure is very low, we strongly advise members of the service who may have received treatment from this practitioner during the period to be tested for hepatitis B and C and HIV,” said Dr. Eli Kleinman, the NYPD’s chief surgeon.
