John Ford Goes Digital

A restored version of 1923 John Ford western epic “The Iron Horse” was supposed to premiere with a live orchestral accompaniment at this year’s New York Film Festival, but it got cancelled at the last minute because of logistical difficulties. The Film Society of Lincoln Center has rescheduled it with two showings on Nov. 27 at the Walter Reade Theater. There will not be a live orchestra; the audience will be watching a digital presentation of the flick including a new score composed by Christopher Caliendro for the flick’s DVD release on December 4. You cheapskates can catch it for free Dec. 11 on TCM, which is presenting two evenings of selections from the 25-title “Ford at Fox” box set.
