MICKELSON WILL PLAY W’CHESTER

Phil Mickelson has officially committed to play the Barclays tournament, which starts Aug. 23 at Westchester Country Club.

The 37-year-old left-hander already had qualified for the 144-player field and secured a seed in the top 30 based on his standing in the year-long FedEx Cup points race.

The Barclays is the first of four tournaments in the inaugural PGA Tour playoffs for the FedEx Cup and offers a $7 million purse with the winner taking home $1.26 million.

The top 120 players in the FedEx Cup points standings after the tournament will advance to the next playoff event in Boston.

This year Mickelson has posted wins at Pebble Beach and the Players Championship. He tied for 24th at the Masters and missed the cut at the U.S. and British opens.

Earlier this week, Tiger Woods committed to the tourney.
