S.I.’S WHEEL GOOD NEWS

The MTA yesterday announced a new bus service from Staten Island to Bayonne, N.J., delighting Staten Islanders who have called their borough a mass-transit wasteland.

The S89 limited bus line will run from Hylan Boulevard in Eltingville to the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail in Bayonne.

The increasing number of Staten Island residents who work in Bayonne, Jersey City, and Hoboken will now be able to take public transportation to work instead of driving, officials said.

The MTA and Port Authority are working out a deal so commuters would only need to pay one fare.

Riders could also connect to a Manhattan-bound PATH train, which for some Staten Island residents could prove quicker than getting to the ferry.

The Port Authority will contribute $2 million to help purchase new buses.
