BLACKOUT RISK ON RISE: REPORT

Eight New York neighborhoods are at a higher risk for blackouts this summer than Queens was last summer, according to Crain’s New York Business Reports.

Crain’s reported that despite Con Ed’s $90 million in upgrades since the blackout, which left northwest Queens powerless for nine days last July, areas from Fordham in The Bronx to Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn could go dark this summer.

“All of these other networks, by Con Ed’s own admission, are in worse shape,” said Assemblyman Richard Brodsky of Westchester. “It is impossible to know at this point whether Con Ed has solved the problem or ignored it.”
