OUT WITH A BANG

WELL, no one got whacked on “The Sopranos” season opener – but there’s still plenty of time left for that.

Sunday’s premiere, the first of nine new episodes culminating in the show’s much-anticipated sendoff, was a sedate affair by “Sopranos” standards.

But “sedate,” in the world of the HBO mob drama, also means there’s menace lurking just below the surface, and Sunday’s episode certainly planted the seeds for future plot implications – and perhaps some corpses littering the road along the way.

For instance, Tony’s violent, bloody, head-butting fistfight with Bobby Bacala at the lake house could have severe implications.

Maybe Bobby will take a dirt nap, or maybe it’ll be Paulie – Tony’s loyal lieutenant who’s been feeling a bit constricted within the confines of his “family” lately.

It’s anyone’s guess, and there’s been a lot of debate among “Sopranos” fans on how the show should end – and who, if anyone, will get whacked before Tony and the crew sign off forever.

Will it be main “family” members Tony, Bobby, Christopher, Paulie or Silvio – or even, perish the thought, Carmela, Meadow or A.J.?
