JAWS SINKS TEETH INTO NEW MNF GIG

ESPN has turned to Jaws to find a better fit with Tony Kornheiser’s mouth.

As first reported in yesterday’s Post, Ron “Jaws” Jaworski has replaced former NFL QB Joe Theismann in the Monday Night Football broadcast booth.

Jaworski, who has been with ESPN since 1990, spent 15 seasons as an NFL quarterback, mostly with the Philadelphia Eagles.

“It certainly is an honor and a privilege to be part of the Monday Night Football team,” Jaworski said during a conference call yesterday. “I want to stress team. I think it’s so important as we move forward.”

Many fans felt the team chemistry was lacking in last season’s booth, which featured Kornheiser and Theismann as analysts. It is widely believed that ESPN chose Jaworski to work with Kornheiser because the two have been friends for over a decade and are generally engaging when they appear on the air together. Jaworski was a frequent guest on Kornheiser’s show “Pardon the Interruption” during last football season.

“We spend a lot of time talking about our kids and golf, we’ve developed that kind of relationship,” Jaworski said. “Tony and I have had a long relationship and I look forward to fostering it.”

Last season, Jaworski received very positive reviews after serving as an analyst for the Raiders/Chargers game, the second half of ESPN’s season-opening doubleheader.

Theismann, meawhile, has been offered a new, high-profile job as a football analyst for ESPN, where he is still under contract.
