BX. ‘CRASH’ COP BUSTED

An off-duty Manhattan detective was busted yesterday for leaving the scene of an accident in The Bronx, police sources said.

John Rankin, 44, of the Manhattan North Warrants Squad, allegedly got into a collision on the Grand Concourse early on the morning of Dec. 15.

The other driver followed Rankin, who allegedly ditched his car, continued to flee on foot, and got away from his pursuer.

An investigation finally led colleagues to Rankin.

The charge against the detective, a misdemeanor offense, normally draws only a summons. But officials ordered Rankin formally arrested for reasons not immediately made clear.
