GOP’S COMEUPPANCE FOR COULTER’S QUIPS

THE ISSUE: Ann Coulter’s anti-gay epithet against presidential candidate John Edwards.

I am baffled that anyone is surprised when Ann Coulter makes her incredibly offensive comments (” ’08: They’re Off – and Awful,” John Podhoretz, PostOpinion, March 6).

Whether it is attacking gay people or 9/11 widows, Coulter has made a career out of shocking remarks.

We are playing right into her hands. Whenever she makes another comment, she gets all the free media coverage in the world, which lets her promote her disturbing views.

Let’s ignore her and hope that she goes away.

First, ultra-conservative Coulter insults Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, and then she appears on Fox News, defending her slur by saying it was not meant to be insulting but a “schoolyard taunt.”

If Coulter is allowed to get away with this, who will be her next target?

Will she call Sen. Barack Obama the n-word or Sen. Hillary Clinton the c-word?

Believe me, this isn’t a joke.

Perhaps there should be a seven-second delay on all of Coulter’s so-called speeches, so that her unenlightened comments can be bleeped.

Thanks, Coulter, for helping the Democratic cause.

You’d have to be beyond naive to believe that there’s no name-calling within the private rooms we all occupy, from heads of state on down. It’s when prominent individuals get into name-calling publicly that the fur may fly.

Sometimes, depending on who you are, there are spin doctors ready to mitigate; other times, you’re on your own.

Coulter is on her own. We’ll just have to wait and see what consequences ensue from such hateful language.

Coulter’s outrageous comments are indicative of all that is wrong in politics today.

She has mortified honorable fellow Republicans and has assisted in pushing many of us away from the party.

She does not believe in reasoned debate or respectful and civil dialogue with anyone who dares to challenge her.

Those who disagree with her become mortal enemies who must be relentlessly attacked until they are destroyed.

It is regrettable that such a significant amount of media coverage is provided to a reprobate extremist like Coulter.

Her continued prominence is triggered by the desire of the American people to view a freak show. But there is no value in being a flame-thrower.

When the “Ann Coulter Circus” finally leaves town, America will be a more civilized and better place.
