WONDER WOMAN LIBERTY

The Statue of Liberty is among 21 finalists in an Internet poll to find the new Seven Wonders of the World.

The 2,200-year-old original roster of tourist destinations for ancient Athenians is badly in need of an updating: The pyramids are the only relics still standing on that list, which also features the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and the Colossus of Rhodes.

The new nominees include the statues on Easter Island, Stonehenge in England, the Eiffel Tower, the Great Wall of China, the Sydney Opera House and the Kremlin.

The contest is the brainchild of Swiss filmmaker Bernard Weber, 54, who made the final stop on a seven-month whirlwind tour of all 21 nominees yesterday at Lady Liberty – the only U.S. icon on the list.

“She’s a technological achievement,” said a beaming Cynthia Garrett, the National Park Service superintendent for the statue. “She bends in the wind. She’s the precursor to the skyscraper.”

Anyone can vote up to seven times at new7wonders.com. Results will be announced July 7 in Lisbon.
