NOWAK & NASA: THE WRONG STUFF

I am shocked that astronauts are not psychologically tested regularly, but only when they initially join the space agency (“Lust in Space,” Feb. 7).

After the Lisa Nowak fiasco, perhaps now they will be tested annually to head off any potential serious problems.

Given the enormous stress and pressure of being an astronaut, it makes sense.

I accept that numerous high-profile jobs that once were occupied entirely by highly trained, capable men during my childhood are now held in abundance by women.

But I cannot hide my disgust when I reflect on the likes of John Glenn, Virgil “Gus” Grissom and Alan Shepard, and then watch NASA spend millions of taxpayer dollars training a female astronaut who drives halfway across the United States with a diaper on so she can pepper-spray another female in a jealous rage.

It’s just another example of what our country has come to.

Sure, Nowak’s behavior was bizarre – but no more bizarre than the Oval Office assignations of President Bill Clinton.

But, unlike Clinton, the tragic Nowak will get no mass-media spin to help her straighten up and fly right.

The woman is clearly lost in space.

Given the sad way our media work, how much do you want to bet that Nowak will wind up on the next edition of “Survivor”?
