ARE YOU A JETROSEXUAL? BE HONEST…

With Wall Street bonuses hitting record levels, private jet companies multiplying like rabbits, and Gen-Xers discovering a taste for upscale travel, luxury vacations have become the hottest area in the travel sector.

And with this fast-growing subsector comes an entire new language to describe these luxury globetrotting jetsetters – like jetrosexual, flashpacker and glamper.

A jetrosexual is a someone who thinks nothing of jetsetting to Asia for shopping sprees, says Mark Jolly, the founder of a new Web site, Globorati.com, who reports on vacation spots favored by these young, affluent globetrotters.

Jolly, who didn’t coin the phrases but merely reports on the interests of those in the category, said a flashpacker is someone with the backpacking spirit and a whole lot of cash to back up the experience.

And glamping – that’s luxury camping, of course.

Michael Rovner, a founding director of Globorati, said the site has hit on a growing trend on travel – reporting on the finest resorts and vacation destinations around the world.

Americans spend more than $95 billion on international travel, and luxury travel accounts for 3 percent of the total – and 20 percent of all tourism expenditures, Rovner said, citing stats from MINTel, a market research firm.
