POL EYES SUDAN DIVESTMENT

A Queens city councilman is urging the city to withdraw more than $524 million of pension investments in companies that do business with Sudan to protest the carnage in Darfur.

Eric Gioia wrote to colleagues, “By choosing to withdraw our city’s investments from those companies, New Yorkers will send a clear message that our money will not be used to support the violence” in the embattled Sudanese province. The resolution is nonbinding.
