Weird But True

WEIRD BUT TRUE

A 21-year-old German man who planned a monthlong visit with his girlfriend in Sydney, Australia, ended up 8,100 miles off course in tiny Sidney, Mont.

Seems Tobi Gutt typed in an “i” instead of a “y” when he listed his destination on a flight-booking Web site.

Dressed for the Australian summer, he arrived in chilly Montana in a T-shirt and shorts. He spent three days in the Billings airport before his parents sent him money for a ticket to Australia.

A thief in Villa Park, Ill., made off with a 48-foot-long refrigerated trailer full of green.

Not cash – broccoli.

Although the produce was worth $50,000, police believe the trailer was the target of the heist, not the veggies.

And they aren’t going out of their way to catch the thief. “We have homicides happening in town,” noted a police spokesman. “We’re not really looking for a truck of broccoli right now.”

A carjacker made things easy for police.

He called 911 to turn himself in after he crashed a stolen SUV twice and then got lost.

When cops in Boca Raton, Fla., asked him for his location, he told them, “I don’t even know where I’m at.”

He no longer has that problem – he’s in the Palm Beach County Jail.

Talk about suffering from shell shock.

Anna Herrera-Gomez was taking target practice at an indoor shooting range in Oklahoma City, Okla., when a shell casing from a 9mm gun fell down the front of her shirt.

She reached for the hot metal as it touched her skin – and accidentally shot herself in the leg.

Here’s a new invention to help you stomp out dust – shoes that vacuum as you walk.

Each shoe has a rechargeable base that contains the vacuum engine and an elastic sock that holds the user’s foot in place.

“As you walk, the base of the shoes collect dust on the floor without requiring any effort,” explained a spokesman for Electrolux, designer of the latest in lazy housekeeping aids.
