Cops on the street will be equipped with sleek, easier-to-carry radios designed to improve communications among different commands and boroughs.
The new Vertex radios are a hit with officers in some Queens commands.
“They’re smaller and lighter, and they are a lot more comfortable,” one cop said.
NYPD officials did not release information on the radios’ cost.
But 4,000 similar Vertex-brand radios purchased last year for detectives cost about $750 apiece – meaning the 28,000 radios believed needed for patrol cops, commanders and other officers will run about $21 million.
