The salary cap has struck the Devils again, this time prompting them to waive defenseman Jim Fahey with David Hale coming off his Long-Term Injury exemption.
Fahey was acquired from San Jose last month as the live body that excused the Devils’ otherwise unlikely to be sanctioned dump of Vladimir Malakhov’s $3.6-million cap liability, at the cost of New Jersey’s first-round pick.
Fahey had performed well as a surprise on the Devils’ backline, with one assist and an even rating in 13 games. He sat out the past four with a triceps strain. He was making a salary of 500G, while Hale is earning 550G. Hale has not played this season, returning from retinal surgery after he was struck by a puck in training camp.
