BROOKLYN

* An armed thief was arrested for pummeling his girlfriend and robbing her in a South Brooklyn supermarket, authorities said yesterday.

The incident began at about 11:50 p.m. on Oct. 3, when Roland Stennett, 44, allegedly phoned his 36-year-old girlfriend as she was shopping in a Pathmark and demanded to know where she was.

The girlfriend said she was in the Hamilton Avenue supermarket at 14th Street and invited Stennett to join her.

When Stennett arrived, he allegedly yelled at his girlfriend, slugged her in the face and pulled up his shirt, revealing a butcher knife tucked in his waistband.

Stennett then snatched a chain from around her neck, removed her bracelet and took her cellphone, sources said. He fled but eventually surrendered to police Thursday and was charged with assault and petit larceny.

The victim suffered minor facial injuries.
