A TALE OF SOOT & ILL-GOTTEN LOOT

A down-the-chimney thief captured in the act Sunday found himself yesterday in another tight spot – the Tombs.

Serafin Gomez Sanchez, 24, homeless and just 5 feet tall, was still covered with soot as he was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on charges of burglary and possession of stolen property and held on $10,000 bail.

He was found Sunday stuck in the one-square-foot chimney of a four-story apartment building at 402 W. 40th St. EMTs had to break through bricks to pull him out by his feet. Credit cards found on him belonged to a resident of a 39th Street building.
