LAST ACT OF KINDNESS BY TRAGIC COP

An NYPD officer and mother of three who died suddenly over the weekend continued helping others even after death – 14 of her organs were donated to people awaiting transplants.

Delia Colon, 42, who worked as a youth officer in The Bronx’s 43rd Precinct, was stricken by a brain aneurysm Thursday and died Saturday night at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie.

“She was a devoted mother who loved working with children,” said Joseph Anthony, a Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association board member. Her organ donations, he added, “will continue to help people.”

Colon worked her entire 11-year career at the 43rd Precinct. She is the third NYPD officer to die of a brain aneurysm this year.

Her wake will be held today and tomorrow from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Ortiz Funeral Home, 4525 Broadway in Manhattan. A funeral Mass will be said Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Chrysostom at 167th Street and Hoe Avenue in The Bronx.
